The Book on the Table
It was a quiet afternoon and Emma was sitting at her desk in her room. She was trying to concentrate on her homework, but her mind kept wandering off. Suddenly, she heard a knock on the door. It was her little sister, Lily.
“Hey, Emma,” Lily said. “Can I borrow a book to read?”
“Sure,” Emma replied. “There are some books on the shelf over there. You can choose one.”
Lily went over to the bookshelf and scanned the titles. She picked one that looked interesting and brought it to the table to read.
After a few minutes, Emma got up to get a glass of water from the kitchen. When she came back, she noticed that Lily had left the book open on the table.
“The book is on the table, Lily,” Emma said, shaking her head.
Lily giggled. “Sorry, Emma. I got distracted by the TV.”
Emma smiled and sat back down to continue her homework, while Lily started reading the book.
